I am asking because I have had a few messages saying they wanted that big, moany, opening diatribe back. In other words, The Grumbler ain't grumbling no more. That is true. But, as I said at the start of the season, I am disillusioned with the calibre of leadership in English cricket. In thousands of words over the past five years, I have tried to point out how they have cleverly and assiduously rigged the rules of engagement in their favour. Stung by the failure to push through the key features of the Strauss Report, they have neutered opposition and ignored the game's democratic structures so that Rob Andrew's group can push through pretty much the same thing.
This early run of Championship games is the best part of the season. So I am just enjoying it while I can. This period will be smaller and, for me, a little sadder next season.

Really good piece from Barney Ronay. The temporary postponement of the IPL showed a small sliver of the subservience that English cricket now has to Indian interests.
And this is only the start.

Finally, an important and rather sad interview. To be honest, I had little time for Dermot Reeve when he was playing. He was too unnecessarily abrasive for me. But, undoubtedly, he was innovative, successful and made the most of his ability.
I wish him all the best with his recovery.
